We encourage you to consider both genders and individual personalities when selecting your new family member. We do see some personality differences between males and females but when choosing it generally comes down to personal gender preference. The easiest way to look at it is that the little girls love you but the little boys are in love with you.
The saying goes that Shih Tzu come in pairs and we love to place our little ones together! If considering the addition of a second Shih Tzu or third, most people generally go with the same gender as they tend to get along better that way. But that is not always the case. Both genders get along well with other dogs, especially other Shih Tzu and most are fairly good with the introduction of a young puppy to the family. Shih Tzu are first and foremost a companion dog and the love to have friends!
