Should I choose a Boy or
Girl ?
Girl ?
Regarding boy-vs-girl, Shih Tzu are a unique breed and have been solely bred to be companions! We see less gender-linked tendencies in Shih Tzu in comparison to other breeds. Each Shih Tzu puppy has an individual personality that may or may not be gender-linked. We also find that parents' temperaments influence their puppies. Some Shih Tzu are more couch potatoes, and some love to run and play! We are happy to describe each puppy's parent personality to you. Puppy personalities do not start showing until around seven weeks old. We have found that their personalities will adapt to fit their family's lifestyle once they join their new families. We want to help you find the best puppy fit for your family.
We encourage you to consider both genders and individual personalities when selecting your new family member. We do see some personality differences between males and females, but when choosing, it generally comes down to personal gender preference. The easiest way to look at it is that the little girls love you, but the little boys are in love with you.
The saying goes that Shih Tzu comes in pairs, and we love to place our little ones together! If considering the addition of a second Shih Tzu or third, most people generally go with the same gender as they tend to get along better that way. But that is not always the case. Both genders get along well with other dogs, especially other Shih Tzu, and most are relatively good with introducing a young puppy to the family. Shih Tzu is, first and foremost, a companion dog and love to have friends!
